In December 2011 the London Borough of Bexley was awarded a Parks for People programme grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). This support enabled research and consultations to take place from September 2012 - August 2013.
The proposals that were developed, emerged from a wide ranging community engagement programme (please see Your Park, Your Say) and other consultation processes. They aim to improve accessibility, information and signage, educational and volunteering opportunities. In August 2013 these proposals formed part of a bid to the HLF for delivery of the Enhancement Project between 2014 and 2019.
In December 2013 the Council received confirmation that its bid to the Parks for People Programme from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund had been successful securing nearly £3.5 million for the Lesnes Abbey Woods Enhancement Project.
The proposals include plans to regenerate the park with improvements to the woodland signage network, new playground facilities, a new education and community hub building and exciting and informative new gateway entrances.
